Charlotte DeMott > On July 29, we embarked on our long-awaited family trip to Europe. The trip started out on a high note when we were all upgraded to business class (thanks to Paul's frequent flying). Maggie and Connor did their best impersonation of the Beverly Hillbillies by loudly exclaiming over every new button's function, but soon settled down to enjoy the flight. Could anything else possibly compete with this???
Charlotte DeMott > After two airplane flights, one train ride, several blocks of walking, and one quick nap, we head down to the Munich, Germany city center to explore.
Charlotte DeMott > There are many shops with traditional dress. But are these for tourists or locals?
Charlotte DeMott > As we would see during our many walks, many Germans and Austrians still wear their traditional garb, especially for formal occasions.
Charlotte DeMott > July 31: The next morning, we buy passes to climb over 300 steps of a church tower to appreciate the view.
Charlotte DeMott > Maggie and Connor are smiling that they made it to the top!
Charlotte DeMott > Looking down on Munich's town square and its famous glockenspiel, called by many "the second most overrated attraction in Europe." The glockenspiel was added to the main tower only 100 years ago, and attracts thousands of tourists each hour to watch the animated characters going round.
Charlotte DeMott > After a quick and unmemorable lunch, we rent some bicycles.
Charlotte DeMott > We spend the afternoon biking through the enormous English Park. Maggie almost crashes her bicycle when she whips her head around to gawk at a fully naked man at the river!
